More Than 100 Mahoning County Businesses Recognized For Workplace Safety Efforts

COLUMBUS - Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) Administrator and CEO Steve Buehrer today participated in the Mahoning Valley Safety Council Awards banquet recognizing more than 100 local businesses for their efforts to save lives and prevent injuries in their workplaces. The companies recognized are members of the Mahoning Valley Safety Council, which is sponsored by BWC and the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber.

"I am pleased to recognize these employers for their commitment to safety and encouraging the development of more effective accident prevention programs in their workplaces," said Buehrer. "The Mahoning Valley Safety Council and their membership are outstanding champions for workplace safety and health in northeast Ohio."

There are 81 safety councils across Ohio and each recognizes members with safety awards annually in four categories:

• The achievement award goes to each company decreasing its incident rate by 25% or more in 2011;
• The group award goes to the company with the lowest incident rate in each employer category;
• The 100% award goes to each company without any injuries resulting in a day or more away from work in 2011;
• The special award goes to each company that accumulates at least 500,000 hours and at least six months without an injury resulting in a day or more away from work.

The Mahoning Valley Safety Council represents more than 450 members in 46 cities. Below is a list of businesses that were honored for their safety achievements during the 2011 calendar year.
