Gorman-Rupp Recognized for Safety Excellence

MANSFIELD– Safe work practices are not just rhetoric at the Gorman-Rupp Company, located in Mansfield, they are a way of life. All employees understand the vital role they play in their own safety, as well as that of their co-workers. By setting such an example, Gorman-Rupp has earned recognition as one of six Ohio employers to receive the 2007 Governor’s Excellence in Workers’ Compensation Award, presented today by BWC Administrator Marsha Ryan.

“Safety is paramount to our mission at Gorman-Rupp. Our employees come to work with the confidence that they will return home safely at the end of the day,” said Mark Kreinbihl, vice president and general manager. “Our safety goals have been accomplished through the hard work of our employees and the dedicated efforts of the members of our safety team.”

For more than a decade, the Governor’s Excellence in Workers’ Compensation Award program has recognized Ohio businesses and public employers who provide a safe, cost-effective workplace for their employees, while also supporting their injured workers.

“Gorman-Rupp has been selected because of its strong commitment to create a safe work environment for its employees,” said Governor Ted Strickland. “The company has invested considerable time and energy into tailoring programs and methods that are meeting the safety needs of its workforce.”

With 487 employees, The Gorman-Rupp Mansfield Division, manufacturers the high performance, high quality pumps and pumping systems required for lasting service in the municipal, water, wastewater, sewage, industrial, construction, petroleum, fire and OEM markets. In addition, Gorman-Rupp manufactures a complete line of state-of-the-art packaged lift stations and booster stations that include pumps, motors, controls, piping, accessories and enclosures.

“Gorman-Rupp has initiated outstanding practices to not only ensure the safety of its employees, but to reduce claims which keeps its workers’ compensation premiums low,” said Administrator Ryan. “In a fairly high risk industry, Gorman-Rupp has exhibited outstanding vision in its safety initiatives and should serve as a model for all of Ohio’s public and private employers.”

Awards are presented to: three private, state-fund employers, two of these winners must have fewer than 100 employees; two awards are given to public employers; and the final winner is a self-insuring company.
