Girindus America Recognized for Safety Excellence
CINCINNATI – With no lost-time claims and only five total workers’ compensation claims over the past six years,
Girindus America, located in Cincinnati, has established a workplace safety record any employer would envy. For its
outstanding commitment to safety, Girindus has earned recognition as one of six Ohio employers to receive the Governor’s
Excellence in Workers’ Compensation Award, presented today by BWC Administrator Marsha Ryan.
“Safety is paramount to our mission at Girindus. Our employees come to work with the confidence that they will
return home safely at the end of the day,” said Mark Laskovics, president and chief operating officer. “Our safety
program focuses on positive reinforcement versus a disciplinary approach. We aim to find employees doing things safely
and recognize them for that.”
For more than a decade, the Governor’s Excellence in Workers’ Compensation Award program has recognized Ohio
businesses and public employers who provide a safe, cost-effective workplace for their employees, while also supporting
their injured workers.
“Girindus America has been selected because of its strong commitment to create a safe work environment for its
employees,” said Governor Ted Strickland. “The company has invested considerable time and energy into tailoring programs
and methods that are meeting the safety needs of its workforce.”
With 50 employees, Girindus America produces active pharmaceutical ingredients for pre-clinical through Phase 3
clinical trials. The dangerous nature of the products employees handle requires the highest safety standards. Girindus
achieves this by conducting monthly safety inspections, in conjunction with meetings to discuss findings, as well as
other safety-related updates and concerns.
“Girindus America has initiated outstanding practices to not only ensure the safety of its employees, but to reduce
claims which keeps its workers’ compensation premiums low,” said Administrator Ryan. “In an industry which requires
working closely with dangerous chemicals, Girindus has exhibited outstanding vision in its safety initiatives and
should serve as a model for all of Ohio’s public and private employers.”
Awards are presented to: three private, state-fund employers, two of these winners must have fewer than 100
employees; two awards are given to public employers; and the final winner is a self-insuring company.
