The BWC Administrator/CEO appointed Stephen T. Woods, M.D., Medical Director in March 2012. Dr. Woods
leads our medical efforts to help Ohio's injured workers return to work. He provides direction in the
development of medical policy and oversight for all medical components of BWC.
Dr. Woods practices physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R). PM&R, also called physiatry, is the branch
of medicine that provides integrated care in the treatment of conditions related to the brain, muscles, nerves
and bones due to various medical conditions, trauma, and sports and industrial injuries.
He earned a bachelor's in general biological sciences and his medical degree at the University of Maryland.
He completed residency training in PM&R at The Ohio State University's (OSU's) Wexner Medical Center and
then went on to pursue fellowship training in interventional spine and sports medicine in Santa Barbara, CA.
He's now a clinical assistant professor for OSU's Department of PM&R and a spine care consultant for OSU's
Department of Athletics.
He brings varied medical experience to his positions. Dr. Woods formerly was co-medical director of the OSU
Comprehensive Spine Center and a physician consultant conducting case reviews for BWC.
