Continuing education

Have you attended a session and need a certificate?
Click here to fill out your evaluation and print it.

Safety congress is a one-stop-shop for your safety, human resource and workers’ compensation training needs. Continuing education units (CEUs) are available for many professional designations. You also can meet your training needs for BWC’s discount programs.

Proof of attendance
To receive any attendance credit, you must:

  1. Arrive at the session on time. Doors will close 10 minutes after the session begins. Late arrivals will not be admitted. BWC will grant no exceptions;
  2. Remain in the session for its entirety;
  3. Have your badge scanned at the conclusion of each session. This is proof of your attendance at the session. This is the only method to identify the sessions you attend;
  4. Visit the website provided to you at the conference, complete a session survey and print a certificate of attendance. You may do so for up to 30 days after the event;
  5. Retain your certificate of attendance for submission to your professional organization or BWC program representative.

Destination: Excellence Industry-Specific Safety Program (ISSP)
Employers enrolled in ISSP may earn a maximum of one loss-prevention activity toward their participation requirements. We encourage you to register in advance. You must attend at least three, one-hour sessions, a one-half day or a full-day workshop equivalent to 0.3 CEUs to earn one activity credit.

Your attendance can earn a maximum of one loss-prevention activity credit, no matter how many days or how many employer representatives attend. Follow the proof of attendance process above to receive documentation of your participation.

One Claim and 100-Percent EM Cap programs
Participants in the first year of the 100-Percent EM Cap and One Claim programs must all attend three hours of training, equivalent to 0.3 CEUs. This training may be applied to program year 2012 or 2013, but not both years. You must attend three one-hour sessions or a one-half day or a full-day workshop equivalent to 0.3 CEUs. Follow the proof of attendance process above to ensure proper verification of your participation.

Group-experience-rating or group-retrospective-rating two-hour training
Participants who are group-rated and have had a claim in the green year must attend two hours of workplace safety training equivalent to 0.2 CEUs. This training must be completed within the current policy year. You may fulfill this requirement at various BWC-sponsored events such as safety training courses or safety congress. You may combine credits with those earned at other BWC offerings.

Ohio Safety Council program (maximum one meeting credit per policy number)
Safety council members may earn a maximum of one external training credit toward the Safety Council Rebate program regardless of the number of individuals in attendance per policy number, or the number of educational sessions or days attended. Follow the proof of attendance process above to receive documentation of your participation. Submit documentation to your local safety council by June 30, 2013, to ensure your attendance is recognized as external training credit for your company.

Continuing education units
The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (1004768) has been approved as an authorized provider by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), 1760 Old Meadow Road, Suite 500, McLean, Va., 22102. For tracking purposes, 60 minutes of educational content is awarded 0.1 general CEUs. All workshops, general sessions and educational sessions have been awarded IACET credit.

Industrial hygienist
ABIH has previously awarded CM credit for this event. The current event contains 17 hours which can be claimed for CM credit. Visit abih.org for more information regarding the CM point approval process.

Emergency medical services/First responder
These sessions have been approved for one contact hour of continuing education by the Ohio Association for Emergency Medical Services. Emergency medical personnel/First responders must check in at each session. Certificates of completion will be provided at the conclusion of each session. Safety congress EMS contact hours are not applicable to registered nurse continuing education and recertification.

The activity code is available at the safety congress and also upon request from BWC’s training department at 1-800-OHIOBWC.
