Safety Innovations Award Competition
8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday
8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday

Make sure to stop by the second annual Safety Innovations Award Competition! We’ve selected the top companies in Ohio that have received BWC grant funds to participate in the competition. You’ll learn about the problem each company faced and their creative solution.

Good luck to this year’s competitors.

Ghent Manufacturing, Inc.
Lebanon, Ohio
Ghent manufactures a wide variety of products including whiteboards, tackboards, easels, enclosed message centers and signage. Its safety innovation is a laminating indexing system with back gauge for 12’ shear, length gauge scale for 4’ shear, digital scale and vacuum lift to reduce or eliminate the ergonomic risk factors associated to the shear and laminator work areas while fabricating communication boards.

Columbus Window Cleaning
Columbus, Ohio
Columbus Window Cleaning provides complete window cleaning services, inside and outside, to commercial, construction and residential customers in Central Ohio and beyond. The company reduced the risk of falling from ladders, possibility of injury and time wasted by purchasing a water-fed pole that can clean windows while the crew members are on the ground.

Compunet Clinical Laboratories
Dayton, Ohio
Compunet Clinical Laboratories is a regional diagnostics laboratory serving 16 counties in southwestern Ohio. The innovation was a Eppendorf Automatic Pipettor to reduce or eliminate the ergonomic risk factors associated to the manual pipetting process.

Miller Cable Company
Green Springs, Ohio
Miller Cable Company specializes in roadway lighting, complex traffic signal systems, intelligent transportation systems and airport lighting. Workers were having fatigue issues due to hand-held jackhammer, so the company transitioned to mechanical jackhammers and reduced the jackhammer related claims.
