continuing education

Continuing education units (CEUs)

By attending the Ohio Safety Congress & Expo, participants can receive continuing education units (CEUs) from the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET), the worldwide leader in continuing education and training standards, and certification. Professional organizations of all sizes, and a broad range of industries and professional fields will accept IACET CEUs. We strongly recommend that you contact your professional organization to verify its acceptance of these CEUs and request information on the application process prior to the event.

Attendees may earn continuing education credit by attending any of the sessions listed below.

The following sessions do not qualify for continuing education units:

You must be present for the duration of the session to receive credit. BWC will grant no exceptions. To qualify and receive appropriate certification of attendance, you must follow the instructions provided at the event.

The following groups and organizations recognize IACET CEUs for their continuing education accreditation:

  • Ohio Board of Nursing (RN)
  • Board of Certified Safety Professionals (CSP)
  • American Board of Industrial Hygiene (CIH)

Teachers and school employees must convey this program information to their local professional development committee (LPDC) in a manner consistent with local guidelines.

EMS continuing education
Emergency medical personnel can receive a certificate of approval from The Ohio State University Medical Center’s Center for EMS for attending the following EMS sessions. To receive credit, sign in and complete an evaluation for each session.

  • Tuesday’s 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. session SCG202, National Incident Management for dummies, Part One
  • Tuesday’s 11 a.m. to noon session SCG203, National Incident Management for dummies, Part Two
  • Tuesday’s 2 to 3 p.m. session SCG204, Geriatric trauma: Don’t let the disguise fool you
  • Tuesday’s 3:15 to 4:15 p.m. session SCG205, Do no harm, do know harm: What first responders need to know about scene
  • Wednesday’s 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. session SCG212, Replantation: Extreme style
  • Wednesday’s 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. session SCG213, Upper extremity trauma and replantation: Putting the pieces together
  • Wednesday’s 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. session SCG214, From the war zone to the street: Advances in bleeding control
  • Wednesday’s 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. session SCG215, Trauma assessment and skills simulation
  • Wednesday’s 4 to 5 p.m. session SCG216, Trauma assessment and skills simulation (repeat) Thursday’s 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. session SCG221, Advanced burn life support pre-hospital course (advance registration and payment required)

BWC discount program credit

BWC customers participating in a discount program such as Premium Discount Program + (PDP+), One Claim Program (OCP) or Safety Council Program may earn credit toward their educational requirements by attending any of the following sessions listed:

  • Most 60-minute educational sessions (one credit each and/or one safety council meeting credit)
  • Wednesday’s and Thursday’s general sessions, SCG902 and SCG903 (one credit each and/or one safety council meeting credit)
  • Any Safety Certified... session (credits vary by session, one safety council meeting credit)

The following sessions are not eligible for discount credit for any BWC discount program or Safety Council:

Participants must earn a total of six credits to meet the requirements for PDP+ or OCP Step 6 credit. Credits earned can be applied to policy year 2007 or policy year 2008, but not both years. You may use credits in combination with those earned at other BWC-sponsored events, such as Workers’ Compensation University and BWC’s Division of Safety & Hygiene training courses. To obtain more information about these training opportunities, call 1-800-OHIOBWC, and follow the options.

By attending all sessions offered on a single day of the Safety Congress, PDP+ and OCP participants may earn a total of:

  • Four credits on Tuesday, April 1 (partial Step 6 credit)
  • Six credits on Wednesday, April 2 (full Step 6 credit)
  • Six credits on Thursday, April 3 (full Step 6 credit)

Safety council members may earn a maximum of one meeting credit toward the Safety Council Discount, no matter the number of individuals in attendance per policy number or the number of educational sessions or days attended. By attending at least one general session or educational session listed above, participants can earn the Safety Council Discount Program credit.

To reiterate, no matter how many Ohio Safety Congress educational sessions a participant attends, a maximum of one meeting credit can be claimed for the Safety Council Discount Program. You are responsible for securing the appropriate certification of attendance and submission of the documentation to your safety council. You must be present for the duration of the session to receive credit. BWC will grant no exceptions. To qualify and receive appropriate certification of attendance, you must receive a class card at the conclusion of each session and follow the instructions provided at the event.

MCO contract credit

Managed care organizations can receive credit for BWC’s 2008 MCO contract training requirements by attending these sessions. To receive credit, you must be present for the duration of the session. BWC will grant no exceptions. You must receive a class card at the conclusion of each session and follow the instructions to receive certification of your attendance.
