Accreditation and proof of attendance
Enter class cards and receive accreditation
Participants can receive proof of attendance for professional certification and
BWC discount programs. You may earn credits in the following quantities:
- Tuesday’s opening session (0.1 CEU and one Step 6 credit)
- Wednesday’s general session (0.1 CEU and one Step 6 credit);
- All 60-minute educational sessions (0.1 CEU and one Step 6 credit each);
- Safety Certified sessions (0.6 CEUs and six Step 6 credits);
- Thursday’s session ABCs of the claims process (0.2 CEUs and 2 Step 6 credits)
- The opening session and roundtable discussions do not qualify for continuing education units.
You must be present for the duration of the session to receive credit. BWC will grant
no exceptions. Follow these steps to receive proof of attendance.
- Obtain a class card at the end of each session.
- Complete and submit an evaluation form at the end of each session.
- Validate your attendance at the accreditation area in the expo hall, or visit www.myexpocredits.com/bwc within 60 days after the event.
- Print a certificate of attendance, and submit it to your program representative or professional organization.
Safety congress awards continuing education units (CEUs) from the International
Association for Continuing Education and Training. The following professional organizations
recognize CEUs:
- Ohio Board of Nursing;
- Board of Certified Safety Professionals;
- American Board of Industrial Hygiene.
BWC accepts safety congress attendance toward the educational requirement for the
programs listed below.
- Step 6 credit for BWC’s Premium Discount Program + (PDP+)
- One Claim Program (OCP)
- Safety Council Program credit (maximum one meeting credit per policy number)
- MCO contract credit (select sessions only)
Certified industrial hygienist credit
The American Board of Industrial Hygiene has approved .5 safety certification maintenance
points per half day of attendance, for a maximum of 3.0 safety CMs for the event.
PDP+ and OCP Step 6 credit
Participants must earn a total of six credits to meet the requirements for PDP+
or OCP Step 6 credit. You must receive proof of attendance as described above. You
can apply credits earned to policy year 2008 or policy year 2009 but not both years.
You may use credits in combination with those earned at other BWC-sponsored events
such as Workers’ Compensation University and BWC’s Division of Safety & Hygiene
training courses.
By attending all sessions offered on a single day of the safety congress, PDP+ and OCP
participants may earn:
- Three credits on Tuesday, March 31 (partial Step 6 credit);
- Six credits on Wednesday, April 1 (full Step 6 credit);
- Six credits on Thursday, April 2 (full Step 6 credit).
Safety council meeting credit
Safety council members may earn a maximum of one meeting credit toward the safety
council discount. Members may earn this credit, no matter the number of individuals
in attendance per policy number, or the number of educational sessions or days
attended. By attending Wednesday’s general session or at least one educational
session, participants can earn the Safety Council Discount Program credit.
Follow the proof of attendance process to insure proper verification of your participation.
Submit documentation to your local safety council by July 15, 2009.
Public school credit
Teachers and school employees must convey this program information to their local
professional development committee in a manner consistent with local guidelines.
EMS/first responder and nursing credit
Emergency medical and nursing personnel can receive a CEU certificate of completion from
The Ohio State University's Center for EMS for attending the sessions below. One CEU
credit hour will be awarded for each 60 minute session. Nurses may use EMS CEUs toward
their CE requirements and recertification.

- Wednesday’s 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. session SCH213, ABCs of AEDs — connecting your first-aid program with local EMS;
- Wednesday’s 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. session SCH214, Burns in the workplace — everything from coffee to tar to electrocution;
- Wednesday’s 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. session SCH215, Old McDonald had a farm, and on that farm, he had … an emergency! Part one;
- Wednesday’s 4 to 5 p.m. session SCH216, Old McDonald had a farm, and on that farm, he had… an emergency! Part two;
- Thursday’s 8 to 9 a.m. session SCH221, Environmental emergency prevention and response;

Note: You must sign in, be present for the duration of the session and complete an evaluaiton to receive
credit. BWC will grant no exceptions. Certificates will be distributed at the conclusion of each session.
MCO contract credit
Managed care organizations (MCOs) can receive credit for BWC’s 2009 MCO contract training
requirements by attending the sessions below. You can earn one credit for each 60-minute session.
To receive credit, you must be present for the duration of the session. BWC will grant no
exceptions. Follow the proof of attendance process above to ensure proper verification of
your participation.
