As part of BWC's paperless initiative, we no longer create hard-copy claim files. When we receive any new documentation for a claim, we image the
documents and recycle them after 120 days. BWC began imaging in 1998.
Note: If you need to view claim documents received prior to 1998, you'll need to review the hard-copy claim
file. Use Claim assignment to find out where the claim is located.
The image is only an electronic copy of the original document, so BWC has no control over the quality of an
image. The quality depends heavily upon the original document’s condition, the sender's fax machine, etc.
Note: You cannot view medical documentation for self-insured claims. However, you can view bankrupt
self-insured, medical documentation that we received on or after Feb. 1, 2003. For all other claims, a small
percentage of medical documentation is confidential; therefore, you cannot view it online.
Only parties to the claim have access to Claim documents. In addition, medical providers not only must be associated to the claim, but they also must be one of the following provider types:
-
Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.);
-
Dentist (D.D.S.);
-
Mechanotherapist/Doctor of Mechanotherapy;
-
Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.);
-
Medical Doctor (M.D.);
-
Podiatrist (DPM);
-
Psychologist.
If you are having trouble accessing Claim documents, and you meet the security requirements above, you can
do one of three things: ask the injured worker to complete a Notice to Change Physician of Record (C-23) online,
call 1-800-OHIOBWC, or send us an e-mail.
If you want to view BWC Orders or correspondence you can use Correspondence information.
If you need copies of any imaged claim documents, the cost is 5 cents a page. Please allow 24 hours for us
to process your request. You can pick up your copies at the local customer service office where you made
the request. To save time and money, let us fax your copies to you. Contact
your local customer service office for more details.
Reminder: You do not need to send multiple copies of claim documents to BWC. Once the document appears in Claim documents, you can be assured we have received the information and are processing it.
If you have questions or problems with Claim documents, call 1-800-OHIOBWC, or send us an e-mail.
