OhioBWC - Common:  Safety Works Campaign

Kids + safety = success for your company

Out of the mouths of babes come words of wisdom for all of us to follow. And, that is particularly true with everyday safety concerns.

BWC's Safety Works for You campaign shows how important it is to make workplace safety a part of the corporate culture. But, a Columbus-based company expanded the audience for its safety message to include employees and their children. This company's message is Safety works for moms and dads.

The specialty-chemical manufacturer sponsored a safety-essay contest last fall for its employees' children under the age of 12 years old. The children wrote why their parents should pay attention to safety when they're working. Outside judges read the entries and named the winners.

Realizing the value of employee recognition, BWC executive staff members awarded the plant's safety-essay contest participants and their parents certificates and hard hats. The certificates were personally signed by Governor Bob Taft and BWC's Administrator/CEO James Conrad, and included the seal of the State of Ohio.

This company's employees and their kids have put into action how Safety works for moms and dads by playing a major role in helping BWC build a better workers' compensation system for future generations of Ohioans.
