Need an Attorney?

Retaining an attorney is your choice! By publishing an overview of your rights and entitlements in a workers’ compensation claim, BWC hopes you will obtain a better picture of the laws that govern BWC and how the claims process works.

If you do not have an attorney and have questions in regard to your claim, we will be glad to talk with you to help you better understand the claim process, just contact the Customer Service Specialist (CSS) assigned to handle your claim.

We respect your right to retain legal counsel to help you with your claim. If you do obtain an attorney, BWC will maintain an impartial position and direct you to contact your attorney for assistance with specific legal questions.

BWC will respond to general questions in a timely manner and assist you in understanding:

  • Your responsibilities in filing a claim
  • BWC benefits that may be available to you
  • How and when payments are made
  • BWC services
  • BWC claim processes.

You can change or dismiss your attorney at any time during the life of your claim. You must do the following:

  • Send BWC written notice when you dismiss your representative and file a new authorization of representation when you change your representative;
  • Notify your former representative of your action.
