What does workers' compensation pay for?
If your employer is state-funded, your MCO
will work with your doctor to make sure you receive appropriate medical care.
BWC will decide if the claim is allowed or denied. If your claim is allowed your
MCO will pay your medical bills. If your employer is self-insured, all
medical bills are paid by your employer if the claim is allowed.
Payment of Prescriptions - if your doctor prescribes medicine for your
work-related injury, inform your pharmacist that the prescription is for a
workers' compensation claim. If your claim is allowed, you will receive your
prescriptions for your work-related injury at no up-front cost to you.
Note: If your pharmacist fills your prescription before your claim is
allowed by BWC, you may have to pay for it at the pharmacy. When your claim is
allowed, you will be reimbursed according to BWC's approved fee schedule.

Payment of Lost-Time Wage Compensation - BWC or your self-insured employer will
pay you compensation for lost-time wages if you are off work for 8 days or
longer due to your allowed injury or occupational disease.
If you miss 14 consecutive days or more due to your allowed injury or
illness, you will be compensated for the entire period of time you are disabled
as a result of the allowed injury/occupational disease. The first 7 days of disability
are not compensable unless you miss 14 consecutive days.
Compensation for lost wages can be paid after medical evidence is submitted which supports
your disability and BWC issues an order approving payment.
