Why report fraud?

Fraud is a hidden cost of workers' compensation insurance which impacts employers, injured workers and you, the general public. National industry studies estimate 5 percent to 20 percent of all workers' compensation benefits paid are fraudulent. If this is true in Ohio, BWC pays out $80 to $320 million in fraudulent medical and compensation payments each year.

Since we began our fraud efforts in July 1993, fraud investigation has identified more than $423 million in savings. To protect injured workers' benefits and keep employer premium costs down, BWC is aggressively attacking fraud.

BWC's special investigations department investigates and prosecutes potential employer, injured worker and medical provider workers' compensation fraud!
