Time frames for submitting the First Report of Injury

Providers must report an injured worker’s injury to the appropriate managed care organization (MCO) within 24 hours or one business day of the initial treatment or initial visit. Since 24-hour reporting is a legal and contractual requirement, non-compliance can result in action, such as loss of BWC certification.

MCOs must successfully transmit 70 percent of their reports of injury electronically to BWC within three business days after they receive notice of the injury. MCOs must transmit 100 percent of their reports within five business days. The MCOs rely heavily on providers to supply important medical information including BWC-required data elements.
