Claim Assignment

Claims are assigned according to two criteria, the claim type and the Injured Worker’s home location. In general, claims that are Medical Only (MO), involving seven days or less of lost time, due to injury are housed in BWC’s central office in Columbus, Ohio. Claims that are Lost Time (LT), where more than seven days of work are missed due to injury, are housed in the local customer service office closest to where the injured worker resides.

The exceptions to this rule include the following types of claims:

  • BWC/IC employees and their immediate relatives;
  • Marine Fund;
  • Black Lung;
  • Public Works Relief Employee;
  • Claims where the Injured Worker and Employer are both located outside of Ohio;
  • Any claim that the service office manager deems as requiring special handling.

These claims are all housed and serviced in BWC’s central office in Columbus, Ohio.

BWC has 16 customer service offices located throughout the state to meet your needs. The BWC Automatic Office Locator is designed to help you find the BWC customer service office nearest your home.
