OhioBWC - Basics: Non-Occupational Disease
Non-Occupational Disease
An occupational disease is a disease process arising in the course of an out of employment, which usually
occurs over a period of time. From a workers’ compensation standpoint, one of the key criteria for
determining if a disease is occupational in nature is determining if the injured worker’s employment
creates a greater risk of contracting a disease than the public in general. A non-occupational disease
will not fit these parameters.
