What is my role in disability management?

Communication among all parties (BWC, MCO, injured worker, employer and provider) is a key factor to the success of disability management. Each party should communicate and actively participate to achieve a successful return-to-work for the injured worker.

To take an active role in the disability management of your employees:

  • Educate them on what to do when an injury happens;
  • Notify the MCO immediately when an injury occurs;
  • Establish a modified work plan for your injured workers;
  • Help set the injured worker's expectation for return to work;
  • Get provider referral from your MCO;
  • Work to accommodate any restrictions placed on the injured worker by his or her physician;
  • Keep the lines of communication open throughout the disability period.
