Marine Industry Employers
Marine Industry Employers are those employers
whose employees are employed in maritime employment, in whole or in part,
upon the navigable waters of the United States.
This includes pier, wharf, dry dock, terminal, building
way, marine railway and other adjoining areas customarily used by an employer in
loading, unloading, repairing, or building a vessel.
In Ohio, the
navigable waterways include:
- Lake Erie
- Ohio River
- Muskingum River
- Lower Maumee River
- Cuyahoga River
The Longshore and Harbor Workers' Act (USL&H)
requires federal workers' compensation coverage for workers engaged in maritime
commerce. BWC offers Ohio employers USL&H coverage through the Marine
Industry Fund.
